Great classic song
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.
Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.
Artist: John Lennon
Song: Working Class Hero
Album: John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you cant follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you cant really function youre so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Keep you doped with religion and sex and tv
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Theres room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
I've never written a song by myself. A complete song. I've written many lyrics for songs, I've written guitar riffs, drum beats, bass lines, and I've even done some writing on a keyboard. But I've always works in a group to finish the song. I haven't started a song and finished it all by myself.
This is my new project. I'm writing music by myself including all elements of the song. I'm composing songs. So far it's a bunch of concepts and ideas in my head but eventually it will be complete.
But on a philosophical level, I don't think anyone writes alone. Everyone uses the influence of others in their life. It may come from within you but it is pushed out by life's struggles and achievements.
I've been big on Pandora for a while now, and I really like it a lot. Recently I got on the beta for Meemix which is similar but with a nifty AJAX interface and a few more community features. I've only used Meemix a few times now and gave up because the audio won't stream clearly. It stutters. It comes through a few seconds at a time. Pandora is smooth and I've never had it drop out. Another thing I noticed is Pandora uses a much higher fidelity audio which sounds a lot better. So far I prefer Pandora, but I'll keep using both and we'll see which one ends up being the best.
I had heard a lot of good things about Becoming the Archetype back when they first signed to Solid State Records. I was a little familiar with them as they used to be called The Remnant and played at Cornerstone a few years in a row. I picked up their first album, Terminate Damnation, a while ago and I liked it but I wasn't blown away. I heard a few tracks off this new album, The Physics of Fire, and liked what I heard so I bought it.
To put it short, I love it. It totally blows me away. It has gotten a lot better, and is as good as some of the best progressive death metal bands out there. The first album was a bit "choppy" in that it kind of moved between a few different styles ripping off a few sounds like old Underoath, Living Sacrifice and Opeth. The new album has a more original sound; still influenced by Opeth a bit but more "brutal" than them. They picked up a member of Alethian (now on Ironclad Records), a band I am a fan of, so they have some more melodic parts similar to Alethian, but they also have the brutal, charging sound of the older Becoming the Archetype.
Anyway, if you like Alethian, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me or Dimmu Borgir, you will probably find something you like with this album.
I took Nicole to work, then I took my car to the shop. I got a ride on their "courtesy shuttle" to work, which was one of those rare moments where I actually use my iPod. Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus and Bob Dylan entertained me for the ride. Today is a good day for Bob Dylan, so I'm listening to him now.
You need something special all right
You need something special to give you hope
But hope's just a word
That maybe you said or maybe you heard
On some windy corner 'round a wide-angled curve...
You can either go to the church of your choice
Or you can go to Brooklyn State Hospital
You'll find God in the church of your choice
You'll find Woody Guthrie in Brooklyn State HospitalAnd though it's only my opinion
I may be right or wrong
You'll find them both
In the Grand Canyon
At sundown
