Catch 22
This is pretty retarded. California's Governator is seeking to privatize the lottery, essentially selling it to large corporation who then change the lottery to turn higher profits.
If voters reject this proposal, our sales tax will increase to 8.75%, a whole percentage point, until the budget is balanced.
This is BS. He's looking to punish the citizens of the state, the poorest of which will be most strongly affected, for his failure to pass a balanced budget. We're now off by $17.5-billion on the budget.
Of course the alternative is to privatize the lottery. This is also nonsense. The lottery is a major fund for the State's schools. On top of that, it now opens gambling up to non-Native American interests - even out-of-state companies. This is also a terrible idea, especially when you're trying to balance the budget.
